Court Sides with Alabama and Florida in Water Rights Case
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit sided with Alabama and Florida and ruled that the water agreement for Lake Lanier was outside of the Corps of Engineers’ jurisdiction. The Court agreed that the significant increase in water supply allocation to municipalities in the Atlanta area would require approval from the U.S. Congress according to the Water Supply Act. The State of Alabama is declaring this court ruling a victory and hopes that the ruling will give the state an edge in ongoing negotiations with Georgia.
