In 2007, the Alabama State Legislature passed a resolution establishing the second Tuesday in April as Rivers of Alabama Day. Supported by both houses of the legislature, the purpose of this day is “to recognize the many valuable assets rivers bring to the State of Alabama.”
This is a day to celebrate Alabama's 77,000+ miles of rivers and streams, and also to support the vital network of grassroots groups that fight to protect them.
Get out on the water and experience Alabama's unique environment, and then take a moment to make a donation or volunteer your time with the Alabama Rivers Alliance or one of the 55+ grassroots organizations across the state.
