Our Lake Weiss Paddle is coming soon. Save the dates of June 25th, 26th and 27th.

Registration starts on Thursday, June 25th at 5:00 p.m.

This year we are doing things a little differently. Instead of moving our camp every night like we did last year, we are going to base camp at Driftwood Campground (everyone’s favorite; our last day’s camp).

We have three float trips planned—Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Friday’s trip will be from the campground up to the mouth of Little River and back. Saturday’s trip will be about 15 miles, putting in at Gaylesville on the Chattooga and paddling back to the campground.

We’ll stop along the way to view historic Cornwall Furnace, a pre-civil-war iron factory and then make our way back to camp.

Sunday's shorter trip will be a run up to the waterfalls on Yellow Creek and back. This was a big hit last year as everyone got to play and cool off in the spray of the towering falls.

For the sake of those without HTML mail, we didn’t embed any images in this announcement. But if you’d like a detailed map of the three routes for print or study, go to www.alabamascenicrivertrail.com and click on the Weiss Lake event. You’ll see the map and the download link there.

You’ll also find information on two local outfitters if you need a boat.

Saturday night we will provide dinner and musical entertainment.

Breakfast will be instant type items and of course coffee. We’ll provide hot showers, camping fees and transportation as necessary.

FULL MOON ALERT: Saturday night begins a full moon. If you’ve ever wanted a night paddle under a full moon on a beautiful lake, this is a great opportunity.

You need to bring food for lunch (if you arrive that early) and dinner on Thursday and Friday, lunch on Saturday and Sunday. Bring the camping or cooking gear you’ll need, and charcoal and propane for it.

This is a base camp situation so we won't be moving after we set up.

The float trips call for a  flatwater-appropriate boat, paddles and personal floatation device. Our insurance REQUIRES ALL participants to wear a PFD when in their boat. Bring lots of water. It’s the end of June in Alabama and will be hot. Bring plenty of water!

Bring a lunch and snacks enough for all three trips, a spare paddle, sunscreen and insect repellant.

 Did we mention water?

Registration Price for this great event is as follows:

$50.00 for non-members of the Alabama Scenic River Trail

$35.00 for members of ASRT
