About the Alabama Rivers Alliance Alabama Waterways Collection

The Alabama Waterways Collection features selected photographs of Alabama's waterways donated to the Alabama Rivers Alliance by some of Alabama's preeminent conservation and art photographers, including:

An idea first sparked in the mind of David Young, the Alabama Waterways exhibit first appeared in March of 2009 at the Alabama Rivers Alliance annual Watershed Leadership Conference at Camp McDowell in Nauvoo, AL.

Met with success, the exhibit matured into a second incarnation featuring an even greater number and diversity of photographers.  Shown at Lite Box Gallery in Birmingham, the exhibit proved to be such a powerful way to bring viewers in touch with Alabama's rivers that no one wanted it to end. Many of the photographers generously chose to donate a print to the Alabama Rivers Alliance to become part of a permanent collection so that the exhibit could continue to travel around the state, exposing new audiences to the beauty and diversity of our most precious resource: water.
