ACTION ALERT: Meeting of Joint Legislative Committee for Water Policy and Management
The Joint Legislative Committee for Water Policy and Management is getting underway. The next meeting is scheduled for September 23 at Guntersville State Park. Although the agenda has not been published, the next meeting reportedly will cover environmental and recreational issues. I encourage you to attend this ground breaking committee meeting and support the water issues that are important to you.

Alabama Water Agenda volunteers:
As you know, the Joint Legislative Committee for Water Policy and Management is getting underway. The next meeting is scheduled for September 23 at Guntersville State Park. Although the agenda has not been published, the next meeting reportedly will cover environmental and recreational issues. I encourage you to attend this ground breaking committee meeting and support the water issues that are important to you.
The four subcommittees are setting up their first meetings over the next month. All subcommittees are open for public participation. If you have knowledge or passion about any of these issues, please consider becoming a member of one of the subcommittees. It will be crucial over the coming months for the legislative committee to hear from river lovers such as yourself.
· Conservation, Efficiency, Water Quality, and Drought Management: Tuesday, August 19, 9:00 AM, Room 622, Alabama State House
· Agriculture, Transportation, Industry, and Recreation subcommittee: Wednesday, August 27, 10:00 AM, Room 807 Alabama State House
· Water Resources, Assets, Data Collection, Storage and Management subcommittee: Wednesday, September 10, 10:00 AM, Chamber of Commerce Building, 515 6th Avenue NE, Decatur
A meeting date for the Water Management Mechanisms, Strategy, and Policy subcommittee has note been announced. Also scheduled for this week: The Alabama Water Resources Commission (advisory board for the Office of Water Resources) will be meeting Tuesday, August 19, 10:00 AM, Capitol Room, 6th Floor, RSA Plaza at 770 Washington Avenue in Montgomery.
These meetings are our chance to ensure that Alabama’s water policy is protective of our many uses and will ensure we have ample water resources for future generations. The Alabama Rivers Alliance will attend as many of these meetings as we can. We are happy to connect other volunteers who would like to attend these meetings and are interested in car pooling. Alliance staff will car pool from Birmingham.
