Mobile Press Register: Developing a Water Plan for Alabama

SPANISH FORT, Alabama -- The development of a comprehensive water management plan for Alabama will be discussed Jan. 29 in Spanish Fort during the Alabama Water Policy Symposium. The event, set for 1 to 5 p.m. at 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center, is sponsored by the Alabama Rivers Alliance and the Mobile Bay Group of the Alabama Sierra Club. 
 
State Rep. Chad Fincher will open the meeting with information about his work with the Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Water Policy and Management.
 
Hank Burch will speak about 5 Rivers and introduce "America's Amazon," a documentary film about the Delta currently in production.
 
Speakers from Alabama's state agencies will present information  about environmental flows and their role in the development of a comprehensive water management plan for the state. The Nature Conservancy of Alabama will share information on in-stream flows and some of their experiences in working on this issue in other states.
 
Alabama Rivers Alliance and the Southern Environmental Law Center will provide background on the process of developing a statewide water management plan, experiences in other states and lead a strategy discussion.
 
The event is free, and refreshments will be served during breaks.
