The Colvin Internship

Colvin

This fund has been established to honor Dr. Ed Colvin who continues to offer dedication for and love of Alabama rivers and works to secure their safety. He has always given generously to others and in that spirit, we want to support young environmental heroes.   Dr. Colvin is a tireless advocate for our waters and we know our interns will be thrilled to meet him, learn from him and become future leaders.

The Colvin Internship will allow the Alabama Rivers Alliance to hire an intern each summer to assist in water policy research, organizing and implementing advocacy campaigns, assisting with citizen water monitoring trainings and other citizen organizing activities, and assisting with organization development needs.  With only four full time staff, an internship program can greatly increase the ability of the Rivers Alliance to achieve their goals and ensure healthy water resources for all Alabamians for generations to come.

What Alabama Rivers Alliance interns are saying about their experience:

Emily Diab"The summer internship program with Alabama Rivers Alliance was by far the most incredible experience I had as an undergraduate at the University of Alabama. This internship benefitted me not only academically, allowing me to practice textbook lessons in a real-world organization, but it also benefitted me both personally and morally. Alabama Rivers Alliance is such a special organization, made up of caring, passionate people who truly showed me the importance of nonprofit public relations. As I learned more about Alabama Rivers Alliance, I soon found that my internship was not just an internship anymore. This experience had quickly become an outlet to express my passion for the career in which I will soon professionally practice."

-Emily Diab, 2012 University of Alabama Graduate and Alabama Rivers Alliance intern

Please help us meet our goal of $3,500 to hire an intern for special projects in the summer of 2013!

Meeting this goal will allow us to hire a summer intern for 8 weeks to help with the work of achieving the goals of the Alabama Water Agenda.  Specifically in 2012, an intern is needed to do research, promote advocacy efforts, and/or fundraise for water management policy in Alabama.  This important effort will ensure that Alabama's rivers and streams are protected in the face of the threats of increasing water demands from interstate competition, population growth, increase irrigation opportunities for farmers, as well as pervasive drought conditions and unpredictable weather patterns.  Educating the state leaders and citizens about water use and water management policy is a big job and an intern can help greatly increase the capacity of our small staff.

Our pop is an inspiration to us - and though it might embarrass him - we want to show him our thanks for being a wonderful leader and we want others to learn through his example. Please consider giving your support to Alabama Rivers Alliance interns. We are so proud of our father and all that he gives to others!  - The Colvin kids
